The distance from Pamukkale to Alanya is roughly 420–450 km. Here you'll find the distance from Antalya, the driving time, and whether to go as a day trip or stay overnight, depending on the month.
The road distance from Alanya to Pamukkale is roughly 420–450 km; a non-stop drive takes 6 to 6.5 hours one way. From Antalya to Pamukkale it is roughly 280–300 km, and the journey takes 3.5–4 hours. The exact figure varies a little depending on your departure point and chosen route, so check it in your navigation app, starting from your own hotel.
In this article we look at one more thing besides the distance: which month of the year makes the journey worthwhile, and which month will be hard going.
The distance is the same, so why does the time change?
The kilometres stay fixed; the season determines the time. In summer, traffic and the number of stops around Antalya lengthen the trip. In winter, rain and early darkness slow things down. Altitude also changes as you leave the coast for the interior: you start at sea level in Alanya, and the climate becomes noticeably cooler as you approach the plain of Denizli.
Rule of thumb: allow 12–13 hours on the road for a return trip. To see the terraces and the ancient city comfortably in Pamukkale, you also need a few more hours. That is why a day trip means a long day.
November–March: cold, quiet, short days
In these months Denizli can be noticeably cooler and wetter than Alanya. You may stroll along the seafront in a light jacket but need a coat in Pamukkale. Because the sun sets early, most of the return journey takes place in the dark.
The upside is fewer crowds. You won't wait your turn to photograph the travertines, and the thermal pools are even more enjoyable when the air is cold. Dress in layers, bring a waterproof top and shoes that dry quickly. In winter, staying a night there makes more sense than a day trip.
April–May: the most comfortable months for the journey
The weather is neither oppressive nor cold. Days are long, and walking the terraces isn't tiring. Rain is still possible in spring, so pack a light waterproof. There are fewer visitors than in summer, though it gets busier around midday.
If you're doing the trip in one day, these two months are the best time of year. Stops such as Lake Salda are also more pleasant to explore in this weather.

June–August: hot, so an early start is essential
In summer the midday heat in Denizli is intense. The white travertine surface reflects the sun, so sunglasses, a hat and plenty of water are essential. Where water flows over the terraces, the ground can get hot in the warmest hours, as you'll be walking barefoot there. It's much more comfortable to reach the terraces early in the morning or close to sunset.
Leaving Alanya early in the morning makes things easier, both for the drive and for the heat. If you aren't driving yourself, you can nap and rest in the vehicle. For this reason, in the summer months an organised tour is less tiring than driving a long distance yourself.
September–October: what to expect now (late October)
In September it is still hot, while in October the daytime weather is mild and it's cool in the mornings and evenings. Today, as of 29 October, Denizli cools quickly in the evening and the days are short, so bring a light fleece or thin jacket. As December approaches, the chance of rain increases, so check the weather before your visit.
Autumn is also a good season for hot air ballooning. However, balloon flights depend on wind and visibility conditions, and a flight may be cancelled on the day.
