Public Places in Alanya: Tips for the Seafront, Harbour and Castle Road
Explore Alanya's public spots, including Cleopatra Beach, the harbour, the Red Tower and the castle road, with 9 local tips and practical notes for late October.
Alanya's public places are plentiful and all close together: Cleopatra Beach, the harbour area, the outside of the Red Tower, the streets on the castle slope and the Keykubat seafront road. Without joining a tour, you can fill a full day just on foot and by dolmuş. The list below explains how to order these places according to late October conditions.
Where to go on your own in Alanya?
The backbone of the city is the castle peninsula. On its eastern side are the harbour, the Red Tower and the shipyard. On its western side stretches Cleopatra Beach. The seafront road running along the foot of the peninsula connects the two sides. Further east, a long walking path runs along Keykubat Beach.
In late October the weather is suitable for walking and the sea is still warm enough to swim in. Only the days are short. It is best to plan your evening working backwards from sunset.

9 tips for exploring Alanya on your own
- 1. Start the day at Cleopatra Beach early in the morning. The beach is long and sandy. In the morning hours it is calm and the sea is usually calmer. Crowds build up towards midday, so at that time it makes sense to switch to another route.
- 2. Watch the sunset from the west-facing shore. The Cleopatra side faces west, so the sun sets into the sea. In October sunset is noticeably earlier than in the summer months, so if you want photos from the beach, set off in the afternoon.
- 3. Walk from the harbour to the Red Tower. The tower was built in the 13th century under Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad and is the most prominent structure in the harbour. The shipyard next to it is also easy to see from outside. If you want to explore inside the tower, check the opening hours before your visit.
- 4. Take a taxi or dolmuş up to the castle road, and walk down. The slope is steep and long. Going up by taxi or dolmuş and walking back down is not tiring and lets you see the views slowly. Wear sturdy shoes, as stone surfaces can become slippery when wet.
- 5. Wander into the old neighbourhood streets at the foot of the castle. A few streets back from the noise of the seafront, old stone and timber houses still stand. There is no point rushing here. Respect the doorways and courtyards, as people live here.
- 6. Save the Keykubat Beach walkway for the evening. The path runs along the coast, is lit, and is suitable for walking, cycling or sitting on a bench. In October the evenings cool down, so this walk is much more comfortable than in the hot summer months.
- 7. Watch the boats around the harbour. The harbour becomes busy at departure in the morning and return in the evening. Sitting on the quay and watching the boat traffic makes for a pleasant half hour with nothing else to do.
- 8. Give the local market a try. Alanya has markets set up on certain days of the week. Ask at your hotel or in your neighbourhood where it is set up that day, as the location can change. It is a good morning plan for looking at seasonal fruit, olives and local products.
- 9. Bring water, a hat and a light layer. From mid-October onwards it is still hot during the day, while the wind cools things down in the evening. There can be little shade on walking routes, so keep sunscreen and a water bottle in your bag.

Which tours can be added to a walking route?
There are places you cannot reach by walking alone: the inner parts of the castle, Damlataş Cave, and caves visible from the sea. For these, adding a tour to your route makes sense.
Alanya Castle, Damlataş Cave and City Tour by Cable Car takes you around the castle, Red Tower, shipyard and Damlataş Cave by cable car in about 4 hours. A good option if you want historical commentary alongside your October walk.
Alanya: Night Jeep Safari, Boat Trip and Dinner starts at 18:30 and drives in Land Rovers from Damlataş along the Cleopatra seafront road to the western entrance of Alanya Castle. If you would rather see the sunset coast from a vehicle than walk it, this is an interesting alternative. Total duration is about 5 hours.
Alanya : Relaxing Cruise With Transfer is a relaxed boat trip of about 5 hours departing from the harbour. If you want to see the Alanya you have walked along the shore from the sea as well, you can choose this.

Frequently asked questions
How do you plan a coastal route in Alanya in one day?

Can you swim in Alanya in late October?
You can swim on most days, but it depends on the weather and wind. It is a good idea to check the weather for that day before heading to the beach.
Can you walk up to the castle road?
