Alanya City Centre in One Day: Castle, Harbour and Dinner Route

Alanya city centre in one day: the castle, Damlataş, the harbour, Cleopatra Beach and dinner. A hour-by-hour route and practical tips for late October weather.

Alanya city centre can be explored in a single day, as the castle hill, Damlataş, the harbour and Cleopatra Beach are all a short distance apart. Climb to the castle in the morning, have lunch around the harbour, spend the afternoon on the seafront and finish the evening back at the harbour. The route below is designed for visitors arriving around 31 October: the days are short, and the weather is mild but changeable.

09:00 – Alanya Castle and the Red Tower

Start the day at the castle. In the morning it is cool and there are fewer people on the walls. The castle was built in the 13th century during the reign of the Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad. The road up the hill is steep. If you would rather not walk, the cable car is a good option.

The Red Tower stands right beside the harbour and is the most recognisable structure on the peninsula. Stop by on your way up or down to the castle. The wind is stronger at the top, so bring a light jacket. Wear comfortable, non-slip shoes, as stone surfaces become slippery when wet.

If you would like to see the castle, the Red Tower, the shipyard and Damlataş Cave with a guide, along with the cable car, the Alanya Castle, Damlataş Cave and City Tour by Cable Car fits this route into about 4 hours. Opening hours vary by season, so check before your visit.

11:30 – Shipyard and Damlataş Cave

On your way down from the castle, visit the shipyard. Dating from the Seljuk period, this structure is where ships were built and repaired. It stands on the harbour side of the peninsula, within an easy walk.

Damlataş Cave takes its name from the stalactites inside it. Inside, the air is cooler and damper than outside, which is welcome on a hot day. At the end of October, however, a light top layer is enough. The cave is small, so 20–30 minutes is plenty. Opening and entry times may change, so it is worth checking in advance.

13:00 – Lunch around the harbour

The harbour area is the easiest place in the city centre to find somewhere to eat. There are fish restaurants facing the sea, as well as local eateries a street or two inland. Restaurants with large tourist-oriented menus are concentrated along the seafront. If you want local food, walk a few streets inland and choose a place with a short menu that local people also frequent at lunchtime.

Alanya cuisine is known for tava, fish and gözleme. You can ask your waiter for the fish of the day. At the end of October the season is winding down, so some places may have shorter hours or be closed altogether. To make sure a restaurant is open, it is enough to go and check the door.

15:00 – Cleopatra Beach

You can reach Cleopatra Beach from the harbour by taxi or city bus. It is a long, sandy beach on the west side of the peninsula. It is possible to walk, but as it is a considerable distance from the castle base, a taxi is more comfortable for the afternoon.

At the end of October it may be possible to swim, but this depends entirely on the weather and wind. If you are not swimming, it is still worth walking along the beach and seeing the castle from a distance in the daylight. For those who want to fly with a paraglider over the beach, there is Alanya: Tandem Paragliding Flight Over Cleopatra Beach. Flights depend on weather conditions and may be cancelled or postponed. Confirm your flight time and an alternative plan in advance.

17:30 – Sunset, dinner and end of the route

At the end of October the sun sets before six in the evening, so the light fades early. Greet the sunset from the harbour or the foot of the castle. For dinner, you can return to the harbour area you visited in the morning.

If you would like to end the evening with something more lively, there is Alanya: Night Jeep Safari, Boat Trip and Dinner, which starts at 18:30. Land Rover jeeps take you from Damlataş and along the Cleopatra coastal road to the western entrance of the castle, with a photo stop, followed by a boat trip and dinner. As it will be dark, focus on the evening atmosphere rather than the views.

If you feel tired, a two-hour Alanya: Turkish Bath Hamam & Spa Experience w/ Transfer, with transfer, is a gentle way to finish the day. There is also a women-only hamam in Alanya, and you can find details in our Alanya hamam articles.

What is the weather like in Alanya at the end of October?

In late October and early November, the days are generally mild and the evenings cool. The chance of rain rises noticeably compared with the summer months. For an accurate forecast, check the daily weather. On a rainy day, the cave, the hamam and indoor meal breaks can save the itinerary. Aquaparks generally operate on a summer schedule, so check in advance whether they are open at the end of October.
